In a significant drug trafficking bust, the Pune Police have arrested Ambika alias Neha Thakur (26), a woman found in possession of over 160 vials of Mephentermine sulphate, a drug commonly abused by youth. The arrest took place in the Hadapsar area, where Thakur was allegedly supplying the illicit drug to college students through a network of young peddlers.

The police had received a tip-off regarding Thakur’s involvement in selling Mephentermine, a substance that cannot be sold without a doctor’s prescription. Acting swiftly, a trap was set up at Kamdhenu Estate in Hadapsar, where she was apprehended. At the time of her arrest, 50 vials were recovered from her possession.

Upon inspection by officials from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it was confirmed that the seized vials contained Mephentermine sulphate. During further investigation, police discovered an additional 110 vials hidden in her house. Authorities also seized Thakur’s mobile phone, motorcycle, and some cash as evidence.

Interestingly, Thakur has no prior criminal record, but police discovered that she is married to Abhishek Bhadange, a known criminal currently incarcerated in Nagpur Central Jail. This connection raised suspicions about her involvement in a larger drug syndicate, with potential links to the Pune-Delhi drug trade.

The police have booked Ambika Thakur under Sections 123, 275, 278, and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for her involvement in drug trafficking. During a court hearing, Assistant Public Prosecutor Aamrapali Kasture argued that police custody was crucial to investigate Thakur’s connections and the larger drug network. The prosecution also highlighted a reference to the name Sujata Rajput found in the parcel from which the drugs were sourced.

The court granted the police custody of Thakur until December 30, allowing time for further investigation. Assistant Police Inspector Arjun Kudale is overseeing the investigation, and authorities are expanding their probe into the possible Pune-Delhi drug links and the role of other individuals involved in the racket.
