POMPANO BEACH, FL — A shooting linked to a reported theft left a woman injured and a man in custody Tuesday night, according to authorities.
Deputies from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BSO) responded to reports of gunfire near Northeast 19th Street and 25th Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Investigators say the incident began with a grand theft in the area, though details about what was taken have not been released. Detectives determined that the victim of the theft fired a weapon at a fleeing suspect in a rear parking lot near a residential area behind a retail plaza.
During the gunfire, a bystander was struck.
Authorities identified the shooter as 26-year-old William Forhan, who was later arrested after being questioned by detectives. He faces charges including firing a weapon into a dwelling and culpable negligence causing harm.
The suspected thief fled the scene and remains at large.
The investigation is ongoing as detectives continue to gather more details about the incident.
