City police on Tuesday arrested 26-year-old Vikas Kumar Yadav in connection with a burglary at a jewellery shop in Narayan Vihar on January 2. Authorities recovered around 4 kg of silver jewellery from his possession, along with the motorcycle used in the crime.
According to SHO Gunjan Soni of Narayan Vihar police station, Yadav, a permanent resident of Kotputli–Behror district, had been living in rented accommodations on Sirsi Road. The accused confessed that he committed the burglary to repay mounting credit card and loan debts.
Police revealed that Yadav attempted to mislead investigators by parking his motorcycle several kilometres away and using narrow lanes to approach and leave the shop, avoiding CCTV detection.
During interrogation, Yadav reportedly admitted that he watched crime shows regularly and used the tactics he observed to plan the heist. Investigators said he had surveilled the jewellery shop the night before the burglary and hid on the roof of a nearby toilet before breaking into the premises.
Police said the arrest was made after extensive surveillance and technical tracking, and the investigation is ongoing to ensure no accomplices were involved.
