Erode police have arrested three men in connection with the brutal murder of 40-year-old Vijayakumar, whose body was found in a sewage channel near Sathy Road on September 8, 2025.

The victim, a daily wage worker from Gudiyatham in Vellore district, had recently moved to Erode in search of work. Authorities recovered a bloodstained stone from the crime scene, confirming foul play.

CCTV footage revealed Vijayakumar being chased by three men. Investigations showed that the victim had gone to a TASMAC outlet near the bus stand on the night of September 7, 2025, where he interacted with three youths from Karungalpalayam: Sudheerthan (21), Mukesh (22), and Selvaraj (24).

Police said the trio, noticing Vijayakumar had a significant amount of cash, drank with him. A dispute over buying more alcohol escalated into a violent attack, and the men dragged him to the sewage channel and killed him.

The accused were subsequently apprehended by Erode Town police and are now in custody, with further investigations underway.
