Uttam Tripathi Arrested for Job Scam Involving Rs 5.6 Lakh

by Ananya Mehta

In a significant breakthrough, the Jahangirabad police arrested Uttam Tripathi, a resident of Rewa, for allegedly defrauding a local resident of Rs 5.6 lakh under the guise of offering a job at a multinational corporation (MNC). Tripathi reportedly conned over 30 individuals from various states across India, including Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh.

The case came to light when Avinash Malviya, a 21-year-old from Jahangirabad, lodged a complaint claiming that he had been approached by Tripathi on a job search website. After promising him a job at an MNC, Tripathi persuaded him to pay Rs 5.6 lakh as part of the recruitment process, only for the victim to realize later that it was a scam.

The police conducted a swift investigation, tracing Tripathi’s location based on technical evidence. Upon his arrest, he confessed to having committed similar frauds in multiple states, targeting other job seekers. Police recovered Rs 70,000 in cash from Tripathi and seized several counterfeit appointment letters of various companies.

Tripathi admitted to having learned about cybercrime techniques on the internet and used this knowledge to carry out the fraudulent activities. The police are continuing to investigate the full extent of the fraud, and efforts are underway to identify and assist other victims across the country.

This arrest highlights the growing menace of online job scams, where fraudsters prey on job seekers by offering non-existent employment opportunities, often requiring substantial upfront payments. Authorities have urged people to be cautious when dealing with online job offers, especially when money is requested in advance.
