Pothencode police have arrested 59-year-old Unnikrishnan Nair for allegedly murdering his son during a drunken brawl at their home in Ulloorkonam on Saturday night. The deceased, Ullas, aged 35, was found lying in a pool of blood inside the house on Sunday morning.
According to police, frequent quarrels marked the relationship between Ullas and his father. On the night of the incident, both, under the influence of alcohol, engaged in a heated argument that turned violent. During the fight, Unnikrishnan stabbed Ullas in the shoulders, leading to heavy blood loss and ultimately his death.
Due to the regular clashes and Ullas’s alcoholism, Unnikrishnan’s wife, Usha, had been staying at a neighbor’s house, while Ullas’s wife and children lived separately.
At around 8 am on Sunday, Unnikrishnan informed Usha about the incident. Upon returning to the house, she found Ullas dead and alerted the police.
“The murder occurred during a heated argument Saturday night. The accused did not inform anyone immediately after the incident. Preliminary investigations confirm Ullas died due to blood loss,” said Pothencode Station House Officer Sunil Gopi. A postmortem is scheduled to reaffirm the cause of death.
Unnikrishnan has confessed to the crime and has been charged under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita. Ullas’s body was taken to the medical college hospital, and police are collecting statements from neighbors and relatives. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
