Shivshankar Prasad Bin, a UCO Bank employee from the South Salmara branch in Dhubri, has been arrested for allegedly embezzling Rs34 lakh from the bank. The arrest occurred in the early hours of April 6, 2025, in Saidpur Rajauli village, Hajipur Block, Vaishali district of Bihar.
The embezzlement was discovered after Chiradeep Paul, the branch manager, received complaints from customers regarding discrepancies in their deposit balances. An internal investigation revealed that Bin had stolen approximately Rs8 lakh deposited by customers without crediting the funds to their accounts. Further scrutiny uncovered an additional Rs26 lakh missing from the bank’s own reserves.
A police team, led by Sub-Inspector Mehbub Ali and following the instructions of Superintendent of Police Nabin Singh, arrested Bin at 4:30 am on April 6. During the operation, authorities recovered Rs10 lakh in cash from his possession.
Following Bin’s arrest, he was brought to the Dhubri Sadar Police Station on April 7. The police are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the embezzlement and to recover the remaining misappropriated funds. This case highlights concerns about internal security measures and financial protocols at the South Salmara branch.
