Toledo Contractor Accused of Fraud, Allegedly Used Home Repair Funds for Bar
A Toledo contractor is facing serious fraud charges after allegedly scamming a 74-year-old woman out of thousands of dollars—then using the funds to purchase a bar instead of completing promised home repairs.
Allegations of Fraud
Police arrested Tyrelle Lawrence, who was hired to repair a fire-damaged home on Belmont Avenue. The homeowner claims the project was supposed to be completed by December 2023, but little progress was made.
Court documents state that a Key Bank check was issued to Bankroll Housing CFN, Lawrence’s business. Instead of using the funds for repairs, police allege Lawrence spent the money on purchasing Upscale Bar and Lounge.
Lawrence Denies Wrongdoing
Despite the allegations, Lawrence insists he is innocent, claiming:
✔️ He still has the money and intends to finish the job
✔️ He completed some work, including roofing, gutting, and electrical wiring
✔️ The contract was made with the woman’s nephew, not her directly
Despite his defense, the elderly homeowner now wants the house torn down.
Lawrence is now facing criminal charges, and authorities urge anyone who has experienced similar scams to report them.
