In a significant narcotics operation, Illinois State Police arrested two Indian-origin Canadian nationals after discovering over 1,100 pounds of cocaine, valued at more than $40 million, during a routine inspection on Interstate 80 near the Iowa state line. The individuals, identified as 27-year-old Vanshpreet Singh and 36-year-old Manpreet Singh, both from Ontario, Canada, face multiple felony charges, including possession of cocaine, possession with intent to deliver, and cocaine trafficking.
The arrests occurred following a vehicle inspection conducted by a state trooper in Henry County. During the inspection of the Volvo semi-trailer, officers observed numerous indicators of criminal activity, prompting a thorough search. This search led to the discovery of approximately 1,146 pounds of cocaine concealed within the vehicle.
Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly emphasized the importance of such operations, stating, “ISP’s coordinated focus on trafficking is helping keep dangerous drugs out of our communities.”
Both suspects are currently held at the Henry County Jail, awaiting their initial court appearance. This substantial seizure underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and prevent the distribution of narcotics within communities.
