In a significant breakthrough, Nabarangpur police have successfully apprehended two suspects involved in the robbery of Rs 14 lakh in cash and gold from local businessman Saroj Kumar Mohanty on January 13.
The arrested individuals are identified as Chinmay Kumar Sahoo, aged 37, a resident of Baisinga village in Dhenkanal district, and Sriman Kumar Ghadei, aged 39, a resident of Keuta Sahi in Nabarangpur town.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mihir Kumar Panda reported that following the robbery, the police swiftly formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to tackle the case. Led by Additional SP Aditya Sen, SDPO Nabarangpur, and IIC Nabarangpur, the team worked tirelessly despite facing challenges due to the lack of any prior criminal records on the suspects.
Through meticulous investigation and coordination, police tracked down the suspects. It was revealed that Sriman Kumar Ghadei, who had previously visited Saroj Kumar Mohanty’s house under the guise of being a neighbor, played a key role in planning the robbery. The suspects carefully executed the crime, taking Rs 14 lakh in cash and gold. After the heist, they split the stolen money, with each suspect taking Rs 7 lakh.
Following the arrests, police managed to recover Rs 11.23 lakh in cash, three mobile phones, and gold items from the suspects. The mobile phones were reportedly used during the commission of the crime, and a knife, used in the robbery, was also seized by authorities.
ACP Panda emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and assured the public that all involved individuals would be brought to justice.
Both Chinmay Kumar Sahoo and Sriman Kumar Ghadei have been arrested and will soon be presented in court for further proceedings.
