On February 24, 2025, Banderdewa Police arrested two individuals involved in drug peddling and successfully seized a significant amount of heroin during a routine check at the Banderdewa check gate. The operation, which led to the discovery of 150.70 grams of heroin, was conducted after police received credible information about a potential drug smuggling attempt.
The suspects, identified as Chiging Arjun (25) from Dutta Village, Ziro, and Gyati Tagiang (23) of Hari Village, Ziro, were apprehended by a team of officers led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) S.K. Tiwari, ASI S.K. Jha, Head Constable T. Bomdom, and Head Constable P. Guna. Members of the 138 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) also supported the operation.
The search, conducted in the presence of Inspector Kipa Hamak, Officer-in-Charge of Banderdewa Police Station, and independent witnesses, revealed 23 vials containing a substance suspected to be heroin. The total weight of the recovered drugs, including the vials, was 150.70 grams.
A case has been registered under FIR No. BDW/PS Case No. 20/2025, and the suspects are charged under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities are investigating the source of the heroin and are working to dismantle the local drug supply chain. The operation marks a significant step in combating drug-related activities in the region.
