Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of a buffalo in Faridpur village, aided by CCTV footage from cameras installed along village roads, police officials said on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly occurred on the night of January 9, when an unidentified group stole a buffalo belonging to local resident Jeetpal by loading it onto a pickup vehicle.
Taking swift action under the Babrala police station, authorities registered an FIR and formed a special police team to trace the suspects, said Additional Superintendent of Police (South) Anukriti Sharma.
“We reviewed CCTV footage from multiple surveillance cameras around the village, which helped us identify the pickup vehicle used in the crime,” Sharma explained.
Acting on this evidence, police arrested two suspects on Tuesday — Charan Singh (20) of Bamanpuri village under Kailadevi police station, and Neeraj (22) of Faizpur village under Rajpura police station — along the Chandausi-Noorpur route.
The police also recovered the pickup vehicle used in the theft and Rs 8,200 in cash, reportedly part of the proceeds from selling the stolen buffalo. The buffalo had been sold for approximately Rs 40,000, the ASP added.
Further investigations are ongoing to determine whether the accused were involved in similar thefts in the area. Legal proceedings are underway, and the accused are being produced before the court.
