Bokaro Police have uncovered a connection between motorcycle thefts and illegal coal smuggling operations, following the recovery of 45 stolen motorcycles from areas notorious for coal-related activities.

Two individuals, Mohammed Parvez (34), a resident of Sadam Bazar, Gomia, and Mohammed Masoom Ansari (19), a resident of Jhirki, Kathara OP, were arrested in connection with the thefts.

According to Bokaro SP Manoj Swargiary, the majority of the stolen motorcycles were recovered from regions known for illegal coal mining activities. The stolen bikes were sold based on their condition: newer models were sold for regular use, while older bikes were utilized for illegal coal trade activities.

In the last three months, around 30-32 bike thefts were reported each month across various police stations in Bokaro. With the arrests of Parvez and Ansari, police believe they can control both bike thefts and the illegal coal smuggling activities that were linked to them.

Following a rise in motorcycle thefts in Bokaro’s urban and surrounding areas, SP Manoj Swargiary instructed the formation of a special police team under the leadership of DSP (City) Alok Ranjan. Using intelligence, technical evidence, and CCTV footage, the police successfully apprehended the two suspects.
