In a swift operation, the Manipal Police have arrested two individuals, P Karthik and Balan Govindan, for the theft of laptops and other valuables from an apartment in Vidyaratna Nagar, Manipal. The stolen items, including two laptops worth approximately Rs4,00,000 and an Apple iPod, were recovered from the suspects during their arrest.

The theft was initially reported at the residence of Akash C Suryavamshi, where the laptops and iPod were found missing. Upon receiving the complaint, the Manipal Police Station registered a case and initiated an investigation.

A special police team, led by Inspector T V Devaraj and comprising PSI Raghavendra, PSI Akshay Kumari, ASI Vivekananda, HC Imran, HC Sukumar Shetty, and PC Raghu, was formed to track down the culprits. After conducting extensive surveillance, the team apprehended the suspects on September 2, 2024, at the Katpadi bus stand in Udupi district.

The suspects, Karthik and Govindan, were found in possession of the stolen items. They have since been taken into judicial custody. The police believe the suspects targeted apartment complexes, many of which house students, taking advantage of the common practice of leaving electronic devices like laptops, mobile phones, and iPods unsecured in rooms.
