With excitement building ahead of the India-England ODI match, two individuals were arrested by the police on Monday for illegally reselling tickets near the VCA Stadium in Civil Lines. The accused have been identified as Manohar Vanjani (62), a resident of Gandhibagh, and Rahul (38), from Dattawadi. The duo were posing as employees of the local cricket association to deceive ticket buyers.
To curb illegal activities around the stadium, DCP Rahul Madane had increased security. A special police team, led by Senior Police Inspector Manish Thackeray, along with officers Santosh Shirdole, Manaj Sahare, Ravi Bhanse, and women constables Pooja and Ashwini, were assigned to monitor the ticket-selling areas.
At around 4:30 pm on Monday, the police received a tip-off about the ticket black marketing near the stadium. Acting promptly, the team set a trap and apprehended the accused. During the operation, the authorities seized five tickets being sold at inflated prices — Rs 3,000 tickets were being resold for Rs 6,000, and Rs 800 tickets for Rs 2,000.
The accused have been booked under relevant charges, and the investigation is ongoing.
