Paducah, Ky. (WSIL) — Two people from Paducah were arrested on January 13 after an investigation into retail theft led to the discovery of drugs, drug paraphernalia, and stolen merchandise.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shoplifting at a business on Cairo Road. Deputies investigated the theft and identified Matthew Rogers, 37, as the prime suspect. However, Rogers evaded authorities for most of the day.
Later that evening, around 7:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office spotted the vehicle linked to the theft on surveillance footage. After a traffic stop, deputies arrested Rogers on an outstanding warrant for probation violation. A passenger in the vehicle, Britney Burlingame, 23, was also arrested on a bench warrant for probation violation.
Upon searching the vehicle, deputies discovered drugs, drug paraphernalia, and evidence related to the theft. Rogers was charged with several offenses, including theft by unlawful taking (shoplifting), possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also cited for failing to produce an insurance card.
Burlingame was taken into custody for her probation violation.
Both Rogers and Burlingame were transported to the McCracken County Jail. Further investigation is ongoing.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
