Tirupati police have arrested Gurmukh (53) from Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh, for his involvement in five chain snatching cases and one bike theft that occurred on October 4.
Speaking to the media, SP Subbarayudu said the arrest happened during routine vehicle checks near the Autonagar Cotton Mill Railway Gate. When signaled to stop, Gurmukh abandoned his bike and attempted to flee but was caught by police personnel.
Investigation revealed that Gurmukh is a member of the notorious Bawariya gang, with a criminal record including house thefts in Shamli, Saharanpur, and Kairana districts of Uttar Pradesh. He confessed to committing five chain snatching incidents and the bike theft in Tirupati.
According to police, Gurmukh admitted that on October 4, he, along with his accomplices Jayaram and Mohan, came to Tirupati and stole a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle (AP 40 DV 2563) parked near the LG Service Centre. The stolen bike was then used to carry out multiple chain snatching crimes across the city.
