TERREBONNE PARISH, La. — A Waggaman couple is behind bars after deputies linked them to a string of organized retail thefts targeting Sam’s Club locations in Louisiana and Mississippi.
According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on Oct. 13 around 11 a.m. to a report of stolen merchandise at the Sam’s Club in Houma. Witnesses said a man and woman left the store with several large bags filled with meat without paying.
Deputies located the suspects shortly after at a nearby convenience store. Inside their vehicle, officers reportedly found multiple packs of raw meat matching the stolen items.
The suspects were identified as 28-year-old Tiara Chaisson and 31-year-old Jason Garrett, both of Waggaman.
Investigators believe the pair carried out at least five similar thefts at the same Houma store in the past month, totaling about $4,000 in merchandise. Authorities say evidence also connects them to additional thefts from other Sam’s Club locations, stretching from Alexandria, Louisiana, to Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Both Chaisson and Garrett were booked on six counts of organized retail theft and are being held at the Terrebonne Parish Justice Complex on $40,000 bonds each.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains ongoing, and more charges may be filed as other incidents are reviewed.
