The city police arrested three burglars in Satpur after recovering 18 stolen cellphones and their getaway vehicle, collectively worth Rs 3.5 lakh.
The operation was carried out by the Crime Branch Unit 2, which acted on intelligence reports. The team arrested Ramnivas Nishad and Ajay Devkar in Satpur as they were attempting to sell the stolen phones. A search of their possession led to the recovery of five devices worth Rs 90,000.
Following further investigation, the police managed to recover 13 additional cellphones, bringing the total value of the stolen items to Rs 3.5 lakh.
The third accused, Prem Gite, was arrested after information provided by Nishad and Devkar led police to trace him. From Prem Gite, police recovered a stolen cellphone and a bike worth Rs 85,000.
A case was registered under Section 309(4) (robbery) at the Satpur police station, and the three suspects were taken into custody. The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior police officials following a rise in cellphone theft cases in the area.
