Three Arrested in Kern County for $30K Copper Wire Theft

Suspects Charged with Vandalism, Theft, and Conspiracy

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — On June 18, 2025, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Rural Crime Investigations Unit uncovered a copper wire theft causing approximately $30,000 in damages in the Tejon area.

During the investigation, detectives identified 38-year-old Lucas Blas, 39-year-old Carlos Eleutereo Acosta, and 34-year-old Salvador Perea Najera as suspects linked to the thefts. The trio was connected to a vehicle of interest used in the crimes.

Authorities executed a search warrant on the 300 block of South A Street in Arvin, uncovering about 250 pounds of stolen copper wire and machines used to strip electrical copper wire.

Blas, Acosta, and Perea Najera were arrested and face multiple charges including vandalism, grand theft of copper wire, illegal possession of copper wire, and conspiracy.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office noted that copper wire theft is a significant issue in south Kern County, causing millions of dollars in damages annually.
