In a recent robbery incident in north Delhi, three youths were arrested after attacking a cab driver at Burari Chowk on April 21. The youths attempted to snatch the driver’s mobile phone and left him injured during the robbery, police said on Wednesday.
Around 3 a.m., Nukul, a cab driver, was waiting for a passenger when three youths on a motorcycle approached him. They tried to steal his mobile phone, but when Nukul resisted, one of the assailants attacked him with a knife, injuring his hand. The robbers then fled with his phone, according to police reports.
Determined to catch the criminals, Nukul chased the robbers in his car and succeeded in knocking down their motorcycle near the Burari bypass. One of the robbers, identified as Vikas (18), was caught at the spot while the other two fled, leaving behind the motorcycle.
Following the robbery, a police investigation was launched. The police subsequently arrested Krishna (20) and Avinash (18) from Jahangirpuri. They were found with the stolen mobile phone and the knife used in the robbery.
During interrogation, the accused admitted that they committed the robbery to buy expensive gifts for their girlfriends. They also confessed to targeting passersby in areas like Shalimar Bagh, where they sold stolen goods.
