The City police arrested three individuals on Saturday morning for attempting to steal a scooty near Keating Road in Shillong. The swift action was made possible due to vigilant police patrolling in the city.

According to East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem, the Sadar PS patrol team spotted the suspects around 4:50 AM. The group had arrived in a Swift tourist taxi (ML 04 C 7163) and was caught in the act of tampering with the ignition wires of a scooty (ML 05 AC 8352). Ribellang Phyllei (25), the driver of the Swift, was immediately arrested, while the other two suspects managed to flee under the cover of darkness.

However, a police checkpoint at Mawryngkneng later intercepted the fleeing suspects—Empyrkhat Dhar (21) from Saphai and Steven Syngkon (19) from Iaw Thymme, both in West Jaintia Hills. They were attempting to escape toward West Jaintia Hills when the police apprehended them.

The police recovered several items from the suspects’ possession, including two helmets, two plastic bottles filled with petrol, a set of screwdrivers, multiple spanners, an Allen wrench, a T-handle hex key, a T-handle Torx key, Rs 6,100 in cash, and three mobile phones.
