Thomaston Man Arrested in Waterbury Child Sexual Assault Case
WATERBURY, Conn. — A 32-year-old man from Thomaston, Thomas Abbatiello, has been arrested following a detailed investigation into the sexual assault of a minor in Waterbury.
Authorities were alerted to the case in late May. Their investigation revealed that the alleged assaults occurred at the victim’s residence in Waterbury and that the victim was known to the accused.
After gathering evidence, police obtained an arrest warrant for Abbatiello, who was taken into custody on June 20 with assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies.
Abbatiello now faces an extensive list of 52 criminal charges, including:
11 counts of Risk of Injury to a Child
10 counts of Illegal Sexual Contact
3 counts of Sexual Assault in the First Degree
7 counts of Sexual Assault in the Fourth Degree
4 counts each of Importing, Possessing, Employing, and Promoting Child Sexual Abuse Material
Kidnapping in the Second Degree
Interfering with an Emergency Call
He is currently held on a $1,000,000 bond and was expected to be arraigned on June 25.
