AKURE, ONDO STATE – The Ondo State Police Command has arrested Temitope Ajayi, a staff member of Dejavu Hotel, located in Alagbaka, Akure, for allegedly stealing a customer’s gold chain valued at ₦11 million.
The theft reportedly occurred on June 22, 2025, and Ajayi was apprehended a few days ago. Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal confirmed the arrest during a weekend press briefing at the Command headquarters, stating that efforts are underway to recover the stolen item.
In a related development, the Commissioner disclosed the arrest of Gbenga Ojo, who allegedly stole another gold necklace worth ₦5,155,000 and sold it to Garuba Jubril for ₦3,084,000 on August 13, 2025. Both suspects are currently in custody.
Lawal praised the Command’s recent achievements, crediting the strategic and people-focused approach of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
He also revealed progress in tackling violent crimes. In Ondo town, police arrested three suspects—Adeife Adewumi, Matthew Johnson, and Diisu Sunday—in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old motorcyclist, Nwike Sabbat, whose motorcycle was stolen. Items recovered included two cut-to-size barrel guns, live and expended cartridges, and led to the arrest of their arms supplier, Chief Kogbona (87), from whom ten live cartridges were recovered.
In Owo, anti-cultism operations led to the arrest of Adams Precious (25) and Kayode Alana (26), both alleged members of the Aye confraternity, following their involvement in ongoing cult-related violence in the Isuada community.
Commissioner Lawal further announced the launch of a new initiative targeting the criminal use of vehicles and motorcycles, which has already disrupted illegal operations involving stolen or unauthorised transport.
“These successes reflect the Command’s dedication to proactive policing, crime prevention, and public safety,” he said.
