Jaipur police have arrested Surendra Sharma (31) along with his two friends after uncovering that the alleged Rs 2.58 lakh robbery he reported in Jalupura was staged.
According to DCP (North) Karan Sharma, Surendra claimed he was assaulted and robbed on November 9 near the SBI branch on Gopinath Marg. However, police investigations revealed that he had enlisted his friends Animesh Meena (23) and Harkesh alias Ramkesh Meena (31) from Dausa to snatch the cash bag as part of a planned scheme.
Surendra initially told police that two bikers had snatched his bag and that he fainted, requiring hospitalization at SMS Hospital. CCTV footage, however, contradicted his story. Cameras tracking his route from the bank to the alleged crime scene showed suspicious behavior, and call records did not support his claim. Under questioning, Sharma admitted to staging the heist to steal his brother-in-law’s money.
He promised Animesh a share of the loot, prompting Animesh and Harkesh to arrive in Jaipur on an unnumbered motorcycle. At Gopinath Marg, Sharma signaled them by moving his bag from the rear seat to the fuel tank, making the snatch appear real. The two accomplices grabbed the bag and sped off while Sharma pretended to collapse.
Police recovered Rs 1.08 lakh from Sharma, Rs 1.5 lakh from Animesh, and the motorcycle used in the fake robbery. All three have been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
