In a chilling case echoing the recent honeymoon murder, a 22-year-old woman identified as Sunita Singh has been arrested for allegedly poisoning her husband, Budhnath Singh, just 36 days after their marriage. The incident took place in Bahokundar village under Ranka police station jurisdiction.
Sunita, a native of Vishunpur village in Chhattisgarh, was married to Budhnath on May 11. However, tensions surfaced almost immediately. The day after the wedding, Sunita returned to her parental home and reportedly expressed that she was unhappy with the marriage and unwilling to live with Budhnath.
Despite intervention from both families and a panchayat held on June 5, the marriage remained troubled. Sunita returned to her husband’s home after the panchayat, but tragedy struck less than two weeks later.
On June 14, the couple visited Ramanujganj market, where Sunita allegedly persuaded Budhnath to purchase pesticide, claiming it was needed for farming. The next night, she allegedly mixed the pesticide into his meal. Budhnath was found dead the next morning.
Following a complaint from Budhnath’s mother, Rajmati Devi, Sunita was taken into custody by Ranka Police on Monday evening. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and police confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to confirm the exact cause of death.
