Pune, Maharashtra: The Shirur police have arrested Sunil Mule (28) and Ramesh Pawar (25) from Saradwadi in connection with the brutal murder of 50-year-old Devram Teke from Shirur. The killing took place on August 19 in Kavathe Yamai village, approximately 75 km from Pune city.
Inspector Sandesh Kenjale said the motive behind the murder was a dispute over a loan. Teke had lent Rs1.5 lakh to Mule and Pawar a few months ago. When they failed to repay the amount, Teke began pressuring them.
“Frustrated by Teke’s repeated demands, the accused planned to eliminate him,” Kenjale explained. On the pretext of returning the money, the duo took Teke to a secluded farmland and bludgeoned him to death with an iron rod.
They then stole his gold jewellery and mobile phone before fleeing the scene. Acting on CCTV footage and a local tip-off, police tracked the suspects to Saradwadi in Shirur taluka and arrested them.
The case has raised concerns about increasing financial disputes turning violent in rural areas.
