PRINCETON, WV – A local woman, Summer Thornton, was arrested on February 1, 2025, after she allegedly fired a gun multiple times outside a residence on Cannon Street, according to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:39 a.m., when Sgt. G.C. Paitsel and Deputy W.C. Morrow responded to a complaint of brandishing a firearm. They spoke with residents Christina Allen and Gage White, who reported that Thornton had driven into their driveway and discharged a firearm multiple times in close proximity to their home.
Christina Allen stated that she and Thornton had been former friends but had no ongoing issues. Allen expressed concern about Thornton’s mental state and her possession of a firearm, as she lives with three children and two elderly adults.
Gage White corroborated Allen’s account, noting that Thornton fired four to five shots initially before leaving, only to return later and fire one more round before driving off again.
During their investigation, deputies discovered a spent shell casing in the driveway, which was later collected as evidence. Both Allen and White provided written statements to law enforcement.
Based on the collected evidence, law enforcement filed a warrant for Summer Thornton, charging her with wanton endangerment involving a firearm under WV Code 61-7-12. Deputies also advised the residents to file for a Protective Safety Order through the Magistrate’s Office.
This incident raises serious concerns regarding public safety and the potential risks posed by individuals with firearms in emotionally charged situations. Thornton’s arrest underscores the importance of responsible firearm ownership and the need for swift intervention in cases of firearm misuse.
