LAPLACE, La. – A Lutcher man has been arrested and charged with felony theft after allegedly stealing 15 packs of roofing shingles from a home undergoing renovations, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The incident took place on June 25, 2025, at a residence in the 500 block of Gardenia Street. Investigators say the suspect posed as a contractor and told a witness he needed the shingles for another job. He then loaded the materials into a pickup truck and drove away.
Detectives later identified the suspect as 45-year-old Steven Duhone Jr., using footage from the parish’s crime camera system. The truck’s owner confirmed that Duhone had borrowed the vehicle on the day the materials were stolen.
Duhone turned himself in on June 30 and was booked with felony theft of property valued between $1,000 and $5,000. Authorities suspect he may have sold the stolen shingles.
Sheriff Mike Tregre issued a message to any buyers of the stolen materials:
“To the person who may believe that you received a good deal on the shingles, we are not trying to arrest you. Just give us a call immediately so that we can resolve this.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
