In a shocking case from Sira taluk, police have arrested Sridhar, a resident of Doddabanagere village, for allegedly murdering 86-year-old Putteeramma and stealing her 53-gram gold chain.
The crime occurred while Putteeramma was alone at home. Sridhar reportedly strangulated her with a rope and suffocated her with a towel before stealing the jewelry and fleeing.
The arrest came following a complaint lodged by the victim’s son, Veeranna. During interrogation, Sridhar confessed to pawning the stolen gold chain for Rs 2 lakh at a private bank in Bagalugunte, Bengaluru, spending the proceeds on mobile phones, clothes, and other personal expenses. Police recovered the pawned gold chain valued at Rs 6 lakh along with two mobile phones. Authorities stated that Sridhar is also linked to multiple theft, robbery, and cheating cases in the Madiwala and Madanayaknahalli areas of Bengaluru. Investigation is ongoing.
In a separate case, the 2nd Additional District and Sessions Court in Tumakuru sentenced Hanumantharayappa to life imprisonment for murdering his wife in June 2021 over suspicions of infidelity. The case was investigated by CPI Ramakrishnaiah, and Public Prosecutor V A Kavitha successfully argued for justice on behalf of the state.
