A minor altercation following a bike collision turned deadly in Shirur taluka when a young man was brutally beaten to death. Pune Rural Police acted swiftly, arresting the two accused within just two hours of the incident.
The victim has been identified as Siddiqui Mohammad Muzammil Mohammad Haji, a resident of Karegaon in Shirur, originally from Chaitanyanagar, Nanded. His brother, Mohammad Shakeel Mohammad Haji, filed a complaint at Ranjangaon MIDC Police Station.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on October 4 at Yashine Chowk in Karegaon. On the evening of October 3, Siddiqui and his brother were walking when a two-wheeler brushed past them carelessly. The brothers confronted the riders, which led to a heated argument. Though it appeared resolved, the accused allegedly returned later that night seeking revenge.
Around 2:30 a.m., Omkar Sitaram Valke and Vijay Dnyaneshwar Jagdhane, both from Karegaon, entered Siddiqui’s house armed with wooden sticks and plastic pipes and launched a brutal assault. Siddiqui died on the spot, while his brother sustained serious injuries and is currently under treatment.
Responding quickly to the complaint, a police team led by Additional SP Ramesh Chopde and others formed a special unit under Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill’s direction. Utilizing technical and confidential inputs, they tracked down and arrested the suspects within two hours.
During interrogation, Valke and Jagdhane confessed to the crime. The case sheds light on rising incidents of impulsive violence stemming from trivial disputes. PSI Shivaji Mundhe from Ranjangaon MIDC Police Station is leading the ongoing investigation, with police promising a thorough chargesheet soon.
