The Vishnu Nagar Police in Dombivli have arrested social media influencer Shailesh Ramgude, accused of cheating multiple women by promising marriage and then defrauding them of large sums of money.
Ramgude, a resident of Hiranandani Estate, Thane, allegedly lured women on Instagram, projecting himself as a successful model and influencer with over one million followers. Police said he befriended the victims, built emotional trust, and then manipulated them financially.
The latest victim, a 30-year-old architect from Dombivli, came in contact with Ramgude between September 2024 and August 2025. Claiming to be a prominent model working on high-profile assignments, he gradually developed a relationship that led to discussions about marriage.
Ramgude then allegedly fabricated a story about an Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid at his house, claiming that 2 kg of gold and Rs1 crore in cash had been seized and that he needed urgent money to “settle the matter.” The victim transferred over Rs93 lakh to him, believing he would return the funds. After receiving the money, Ramgude reportedly stopped responding.
During his arrest, police recovered 39 tolas of gold, a BMW car, and four high-end iPhones. Investigators noted that the BMW was registered in another woman’s name, suggesting possible further fraud. Senior police inspector Ram Chopde stated, “We are now investigating whether more women have been similarly cheated.”
Authorities believe additional victims may come forward as the investigation continues.
