Billy George, the father of murder victim John George, has been arrested for a second time this week, following accusations of harassment related to shocking social media posts. The 55-year-old father, who has been publicly campaigning for justice in his son’s murder, allegedly posted offensive comments, calling a woman a “slt” and referring to her mother as a “c**.” He also accused them of being involved in his son’s murder.
The complaints came from Dawn Smyth, the mother of Jonny Smyth, the suspect linked to John George’s murder, and Carly Allen, whose daughter is Jonny’s partner.
Billy George was arrested in Belfast on Wednesday, after arriving from Portugal, where he had recently assisted authorities in locating Jonny Smyth, who was hiding in Braga. Smyth was arrested on March 25, although the initial attempt had been delayed due to technical issues regarding the arrest warrant. Smyth is expected to face questioning in Spain soon.
Billy George’s social media posts reportedly violated a harassment order, leading to his recent arrest after a complaint from Carly Allen. Police had flagged George’s passport upon his return to Belfast, prompting the arrest. He was extremely upset but was not able to be interviewed immediately. His phone was also seized during the investigation.
A PSNI spokesperson confirmed the arrest, stating: “A man aged in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of breaching an injunction prohibiting harassment. He was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.”
This is not Billy George’s first encounter with legal action; last month, he was given a Community Resolution Notice for common assault after confronting Dawn Smyth at her home and business. It has also been reported that Carly Allen and Dawn Smyth have filed harassment proceedings against him and his supporters.
Despite the ongoing investigation, it appears that Madison Allen, the daughter of Carly Allen, has not been arrested or linked to the murder case in Spain, and authorities there show no interest in her involvement.
