In a significant overnight operation, Palampur police arrested seven individuals involved in a drug smuggling racket, recovering 12.42 gm of heroin (chitta) from their possession.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Bunty, Rakesh Kumar, Rimpu, Maneet Kumar, Akshay Kumar, Akshay Sharma, and Sandeep Rana—all residents of Palampur and Baijnath. According to the police, this group had been running a long-standing drug racket, sourcing heroin from peddlers in Punjab and distributing it in the local areas of Palampur and Baijnath.

Kangra Superintendent of Police (SP), Shalini Agnihotri, stated that in the past month alone, over 25 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered across various police stations in the region. This highlights the rising issue of drug smuggling and abuse in the area.

The police are continuing their investigation into the racket, aiming to dismantle the network and prevent further drug trafficking in the region.
