Secunderabad Railway Police arrested Kokila Maniraju (39) from Karnataka and S Dina (27) from Tamil Nadu on Thursday, December 25, in connection with gold thefts. Authorities recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 25 lakh from their possession.
Kokila, a habitual offender with four prior property offence cases in Hyderabad, reportedly influenced Dina, who had financial troubles, to join him in committing thefts.
On December 2, the duo booked tickets in the AC coach of the Nanded Express traveling from Visakhapatnam to Charlapally. During the journey, they targeted the luggage of two female passengers and stole gold ornaments. They changed coaches and disembarked at Charlapally Railway Station to evade capture.
The suspects were later apprehended near Gate No. 2 of Secunderabad Railway Station while scouting for more opportunities. Upon interrogation, they admitted to committing another theft in the Secunderabad Railway jurisdiction, and police recovered the stolen property.
The police continue their investigation to identify any further accomplices and prevent similar incidents.
