A Sanford man, Edgar Alexis Rivera Serrano, was arrested after police discovered drugs in his vehicle parked at an Aberdeen park on March 8. According to the Aberdeen Police Department, officers were conducting a routine check of the park after hours when they noticed a vehicle with an occupant inside.
When officers approached the vehicle, they reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana. The driver, identified as 23-year-old Rivera Serrano, was with a female passenger in the car. During a search of the vehicle, police found a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance, which Rivera Serrano confirmed was cocaine.
In addition to the cocaine, officers seized suspected Xanax pills, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and an open bottle of brandy from the vehicle.
Rivera Serrano was charged with felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (cocaine), simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance (Xanax), possession of marijuana, two counts of possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and possession of an open container. His secured bond was set at $10,000.
