Two immigration agents were arrested in Faridabad and Hisar on Wednesday evening for defrauding several victims under the pretext of providing work visas and jobs abroad.
The Bhiwani police arrested Sandeep Kumar from Faridabad for allegedly cheating four persons of about Rs10.10 lakh by promising them work visas and jobs in Dubai. According to Bhiwani Superintendent of Police Nitish Aggarwal, the accused sent the four individuals to Dubai on tourist visas but failed to arrange the promised jobs or work visas. After their return, Sandeep Kumar refused to refund the money. He has been placed under two-day police remand for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Hisar police arrested Gurupavitra Gill, a travel agent from Jalandhar, for defrauding a youth of Rs27 lakh with promises to send him to the US. The victim, Jagjit Singh from Bithmara village, filed a complaint stating that after being sent to Dubai and then Mali, he was kept hostage with his passport confiscated. Demands for ransom totaling Rs9.80 lakh were made, and Jagjit’s release was secured after his wife paid Rs10 lakh. Jagjit also revealed that Gill and his aide Harvinder Sindhu had initially promised to arrange his move to the US for Rs35 lakh but later defrauded him and threatened him when he sought a refund.
Hisar police spokesperson Vikas Kumar confirmed the arrest of two persons related to the case and stated that investigations are ongoing.
