READFIELD, Maine (WGME) – A Belfast man, Samuel Whittemore, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Margaux Whittemore, after an incident that took place on Wednesday morning in Readfield.
According to Maine State Police, the incident occurred around 10:02 a.m. outside a family home on Giles Road. When officers arrived, they found the body of 32-year-old Margaux Whittemore outside the residence, while an injured 67-year-old woman, Samuel Whittemore’s mother, was found inside. The injured woman was immediately transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for treatment.
Samuel Whittemore, 34, ran from the scene but was arrested nearby. Police later confirmed that he and Margaux were visiting his parents’ home in Readfield at the time of the incident. The injured woman is Samuel Whittemore’s mother, and his father was not present during the events.
The cause of death is being investigated, but the Office of Chief Medical Examiner has not yet released the details. Samuel Whittemore was charged with murder and is currently being held at Kennebec County Jail.
