Samastipur Police, in collaboration with the Special Task Force (STF), have successfully cracked a high-profile bank robbery case involving a loot of Rs 15 lakh in cash and jewellery valued over Rs 4 crore. During the operation, police recovered gold worth nearly Rs 1 crore and arrested four accused, including a goldsmith.
The daring robbery occurred on May 7 at the Bank of Maharashtra branch located in Kashipur under the Town police station area. Around six armed robbers posed as customers before holding staff and customers at gunpoint, locking them in a room, and stealing the valuables.
According to Samastipur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sanjay Kumar Pandey, the heist was masterminded by Karmveer Kumar, also known as Dharmveer Kumar, who carries a bounty of Rs 2 lakh. “Karmveer and his accomplices were apprehended after a series of raids across Samastipur,” said ASP Pandey.
The arrested individuals include Karmveer Kumar (Dharmveer Kumar) from Vaishali, Ravish Kumar (Vaishali), Bittu Kumar, a goldsmith from Vaishali, and Randhir Kumar alias Bablu from Samastipur. The police also seized three country-made pistols, four bullets, a motorcycle, a car, Rs 19,200 in cash, and 958.28 grams of gold.
Further investigations revealed the gang planned another robbery targeting a jewellery shop in Dalsinghsarai, Samastipur. However, the police intercepted them based on a tip-off.
ASP Pandey also disclosed the involvement of another criminal, Deepak Kumar aka Deepak Munshi, a former clerk at the Samastipur court. Deepak is linked to several robberies in Vaishali and Samastipur and had previously acted as an informer during a jewellery heist in Dalsinghsarai.
