NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — A Newberry man with a history of violent crime will serve a lengthy prison term after pleading guilty to a serious drug offense.
Rondarius R. Davis, 26, was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to trafficking fentanyl in the amount of 14 to 28 grams, according to 8th Circuit Solicitor David M. Stumbo.
Circuit Judge Charles McCutchen handed down the mandatory minimum sentence last Thursday. Because the charge is classified as violent under South Carolina law, Davis must serve at least 85% of the sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
The charge stemmed from a December 2024 arrest, during which Davis—who was already on probation for a 2022 aggravated assault and battery conviction—was located via his GPS ankle monitor at the Indian Hill Apartments on Drayton Street. Authorities discovered approximately 17 grams of fentanyl in his possession.
At the time of his fentanyl plea, Davis was already serving time for violating probation related to the 2022 shooting case.
Solicitor Stumbo commented on the sentencing:
“Our citizens in Newberry County will hopefully sleep more soundly tonight with a violent criminal like Rondarius Davis behind bars — where he belongs — for the foreseeable future.”
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Solicitor Bret West Price with support from 8th Circuit Investigator Jeremiah Sinclair. Attorney Ralph Wilson Jr., of Conway, represented Davis.
