A shocking murder has emerged in Ahmedabad, where a rickshaw driver allegedly crushed a young man to death after a dispute over a Rs 30 fare. The victim’s body was discovered near the Jain Derasar in Navrangpura on the night of April 19. Initially, the case appeared to be an accident, but after reviewing CCTV footage, the police uncovered the disturbing truth.
The footage revealed that the rickshaw driver, identified as Sameer Nath, first hit the youth with his vehicle. Shockingly, he then took a U-turn and ran over the victim again while the man was lying on the road, leading to his death on the spot.
The police quickly traced the vehicle using the rickshaw number visible in the CCTV footage. They identified the vehicle owner, Bhupendra Nath, and later tracked down the driver, Sameer Nath, who had rented the rickshaw. Sameer was arrested at his residence near Sindhu Bhavan Road.
During interrogation, Sameer Nath revealed that the incident unfolded when he picked up the victim, who wanted to go to Kalupur. Sameer agreed to drop him only as far as Navrangpura. When they arrived, the youth informed Sameer that he couldn’t pay the Rs 30 fare and attempted to walk away. Enraged by this, Sameer drove the rickshaw on the wrong side of the road and deliberately knocked the youth down. Afterward, he took a U-turn and ran over the victim again, resulting in his death.
Police are currently trying to identify the deceased man, as he remains unknown. Safin Hasan, DCP in charge of Zone-1, stated, “The accused committed the murder in a fit of rage over an unpaid fare. Since the victim is still unidentified, we are exploring all possible avenues to uncover his identity.”
This case has left the community shocked, highlighting the severity of violence triggered by trivial disputes. The investigation is ongoing, with police working to piece together the details of the victim’s identity and the full circumstances of the tragic incident.
