Richard Vaka, Norman Desumala Arrested in SF Burglary Case

Stolen credit card used at Bay Area casino after home break-in

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) — Two East Bay men were arrested after a residential burglary in South San Francisco led to the theft of property, a vehicle, and the fraudulent use of a stolen credit card at a Bay Area casino, authorities said.

According to the South San Francisco Police Department, officers responded at 6 a.m. on May 2 to a burglary report in the 300 block of Arroyo Drive. When they arrived, they found the home had been forcibly entered while the residents were away, and “an abundance” of property, including a vehicle, had been stolen.

Later that day, a credit card belonging to one of the residents was used at a local casino, raising further suspicion.

Two Suspects Identified and Arrested
After investigating, detectives identified Richard Vaka, 36, of Newark, as the primary suspect, and Norman Desumala, 43, of Fremont, as a coconspirator. Both were arrested Thursday with assistance from the Fremont Police Department.

Richard Vaka was booked into Alameda County Jail on charges of:

First-degree burglary

Vehicle theft

Grand theft

Norman Desumala was charged with:

Petty theft

Identity theft

Intent to defraud

Committing a felony while out on bail

Both suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.
