by Ananya Mehta

The Geetanagar Police have dismantled an interstate car theft racket operating under the guise of a car rental agency. The accused reportedly acquired vehicles by impersonating rental service agents and subsequently sold them in northeastern states such as Mizoram and Tripura.

Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the racket. The primary accused include Gagan Baishya, Nayan Deka, and Dhritiraj Deka. Two other suspects, Sadiul Rahman from Mizoram and Abdul Qasim Chaudhary from Tripura, were allegedly involved in coordinating the sales and logistics in their respective states.

Police investigations revealed a well-organized network exploiting the trust in rental services to facilitate interstate vehicle theft and resale.

Authorities continue probing the extent of the racket and are working to recover the stolen vehicles.
