Sarkhej Police have arrested a retired SRP jawan, Salimmiya Hussainmiya Rathod, for allegedly impersonating a police officer and robbing a woman of her gold jewelry. Rathod, 49, a former SRP Group-2 jawan, had been recruited to the SRP in 1999 at Saijpur Bogha and resided in Vatwa.

The incident occurred on March 30, when a 26-year-old schoolteacher from Sarkhej was returning home. As she reached her apartment complex’s parking area, a man riding a motorcycle approached her. He claimed to be a police officer and informed her that her fiancé had been arrested. He then demanded money for her fiancé’s release. When the woman refused to comply, Rathod snatched her gold bracelet and ring before fleeing the scene.

The victim promptly reported the theft to the Sarkhej Police, who swiftly arrested Rathod. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Rathod had 13 previous criminal cases against him, adding to his long history of criminal activities.
