In a significant narcotics crackdown, Rangiya Railway Police arrested Rabiranjan Kumar, a resident of Madhubani district, Bihar, during a late-night raid on the Down Avadh Assam Express near Namnimua.

Acting on a confidential tip-off, officers intercepted Kumar, who was attempting to smuggle 2.5 kilograms of morphine—an illegal and highly regulated narcotic—from Dimapur, Nagaland, to Bihar. The seized morphine has an estimated street value of Rs 1.25 crore.

Authorities emphasized that possession of morphine without authorization is a serious criminal offense. This arrest sheds light on the increasing use of railway routes for narcotics trafficking in Northeast India.

Kumar is currently under interrogation to uncover details about the drug’s source, destination, and the broader smuggling network. Police suspect the involvement of a larger interstate racket, with investigations ongoing.

In response, Rangiya Railway Police have intensified surveillance across trains and railway stations in the region to prevent further drug smuggling attempts.
