HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A 25-year-old woman has been charged with murder following a fatal early morning shooting in Huntsville that claimed the life of a 22-year-old man, according to local police.

Huntsville Police Department (HPD) officers responded around 1 a.m. Monday to a report of gunfire in the 3900 block of Rucker Circle. Upon arrival, officers discovered Nicholas Kyle Howell, of Huntsville, lying on the road near Telstar and Baldwin Circle with a gunshot wound.

Before being transported to the hospital, Howell told police he had been in the area with a friend when he was shot. He later died from his injuries, prompting investigators to escalate the case.

Officers found physical evidence at a nearby apartment complex on Rucker Circle. Based on the investigation, Amber Marie Baker, 25, of Huntsville, was identified as the suspect. She was initially charged with assault, but the charge was upgraded to murder following Howell’s death.

Police say the incident began as a planned transaction between Baker and Howell. During their meeting, Baker allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Howell.

Baker was arrested and is currently being held without bond at the Madison County Jail.
