MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) — A Midland man, Ralph Allan Olson, 61, has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police say he intentionally struck his wife with his vehicle during a Saturday morning argument. Olson was taken into custody on June 7, with his bond set at $75,000. As of Monday, he remained held at the Midland County Detention Center. Court records do not list an attorney for Olson.
Police responded shortly after 9 a.m. near Holloway Drive following a report of a pedestrian accident. Upon arrival, officers found Olson’s wife with visible scrapes and bruises on both knees and her left arm.
According to an arrest affidavit, Olson admitted he and his wife had been arguing earlier that morning. After leaving their home, he returned and saw her walking near the curb. Olson confessed to “speeding by out of spite” and hitting her with his brown Ford F-150 on the passenger side.
The victim confirmed the argument and said she was struck by the passenger side of the truck, which knocked her to the ground. Though injured, she initially declined to press charges.
However, police reviewed security footage from a nearby home, showing Olson driving at a high speed through the neighborhood and not attempting to avoid hitting the woman until after impact. Witnesses also reported Olson did not immediately return to the scene following the collision. The victim was walking near the curb and was not obstructing traffic.
Based on Olson’s admission, video evidence, and witness statements, police arrested Olson and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Olson remains in custody as of June 11, according to Midland County Detention Center records.
