Gurugram police arrest 4 in fake job racket raid

Gurugram police have uncovered a fake call centre operating out of Delhi that was scamming people with false promises of airport job placements. Four individuals, including three women, were arrested in a coordinated raid on Tuesday.

The raid was led by Inspector Amit Kumar and took place at Lal Kuan, Badarpur, in Delhi. The accused have been identified as Raju, the operator and mastermind of the scam, along with employees Sayma Bano, Niharika alias Neeraj, and Karishma — all residents of Delhi.

Raju, originally from Tilka Garhi village in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, is a repeat offender in cybercrime. He was previously arrested in 2023 for similar fraudulent activities. After being released from jail, he returned to scamming, this time by launching a fake call centre targeting job seekers.

According to ACP (Cyber) Vikas Kaushik, Raju duped victims by posing as a recruiter offering lucrative airport jobs. He hired the three women on a salary of Rs12,000 per month, plus a 2% commission from the defrauded amount.

Raju provided keypad phones for making scam calls and smartphones for sending messages via WhatsApp. To avoid detection, he had a habit of destroying both the phones and SIM cards after one month of use.

During the raid, police seized 13 mobile phones used in the operation. Investigations are ongoing to determine the scale of the scam and identify other victims.
