Police have busted a motorcycle theft gang operating across Dhanbad and Jamtara districts, arresting five suspects and recovering eight stolen bikes from various locations.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajiv Murmu, Chitranjan Tudu, Sonaram Tudu, Sanatan Hembram, and Rafique Ansari (also known as Gudi Ansari), all linked to thefts in both districts.
According to Dhanbad Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Dhirendra Narayan Banka, one of the stolen motorcycles was found in the Tundi area, while seven others were recovered from different police jurisdictions in Jamtara district.
The breakthrough came following Senior Superintendent of Police H.P. Janardhanan’s directive for increased night patrolling. At 1 a.m. Tuesday, officers conducting a vehicle check near Pokharia More under the East Tundi Police Station, stopped Sanatan Hembram riding a suspicious motorcycle.
Upon interrogation, Hembram confessed the motorcycle was stolen and claimed he had bought it from Rafique Ansari of Lakhanpur village in Jamtara. Acting quickly, Officer-in-Charge Ravi Kumar of East Tundi contacted Jamtara police, leading to Rafique Ansari’s arrest under Narayanpur Police Station limits.
Further investigation led to the recovery of seven more motorcycles, and police believe the gang is responsible for several inter-district bike thefts.
