More than ten months after two men impersonated doctors at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, the city police finally traced and arrested them on Thursday.
The accused have been identified as Rajesh Prithvi, 35, and Aravindan, 30. Authorities said Kanchana, 30, from Kolathur, had accompanied her mother-in-law to meet an anaesthesiologist at the hospital on June 6. During the visit, a man approached her claiming to be the doctor in charge of surgery and asked for medical documents, which she handed over.
The next day, June 7, he took Kanchana to the hospital’s seventh floor, claiming it was necessary to buy medicines. He then suggested a scan and asked her to place her jewellery and phone in a bag. Trusting him, she handed over a three-sovereign gold chain, thaali, a 2-gram gold ring, and her mobile phone. The man assured her he would keep the bag in his cabin but never returned.
Following the incident, Kanchana filed a complaint at the RGGGH police station, leading to the eventual arrest of the two men.
